With an access to research assistance and consultation, the following-in the context of increased online activity and self-isolation-could be explored: how to make studio art collaboratively, how to enable participatory social practices and what tools and methods do we employ, how to connect non-artist communities remotely, how do we connect with others to create accessible spaces and new forms of creative practice, and how drawing can become a conduit to connect and open dialogue.

With research assistance and consultation, the following- in the context of increased online activity and self-isolation-- would be explored: how to make studio art collaboratively, how to enable participatory social practices and what tools and methods do we employ, how to connect non-artist communities remotely, how do we connect with others to create accessible spaces and new forms of creative practice, and how drawing can become a conduit to connect and open dialogue. The Drawing Board would like to further investigate ways to expand our drawing and social practice to include artists and non-artists in diverse communities that also considers multiple platforms of communication

The role of drawing and art in this process is to create a space of critique, self-reflexivity and collaborative engagement that can build collectivity andcommunity while seeking moments of humour to illustrate how institutional systems can shape dialogue.

ExplainEverything

For our  first online meeting The Drawing Board and Friends we explored the app Explain Everything. It is an online drawing board that is available on all mobile platforms and Chromebooks.  ExplainEverything allowed the participants to draw their e-motions.

Draw.Chat

For the second Drawing Board session we used Draw.Chat. Draw Chat is a real-time graphic image editor that enhances collaborative and collective team efforts like none other. It allows many users to be able to simultaneously draw on the same canvas without disturbing the other person. Participants were enabled to change their nicknames and see what other participants were drawing at the moment. Every page was assigned to a certain theme and role.

By creating this installation, both in the physical and digital space, we intend to facilitate meaningful exploration of how we function as artists living and working within paradigms that may or may not be fit for us.
