Back to the Drawing Board
Loop Gallery, Toronto, ON August 2017
Our first public exhibition, "Back to the Drawing Board" was at Loop gallery in Toronto August 2017. Over four weeks, we used this artist-run space as a creative lab that was open to the public and focused on collaborative drawing installations and performances.
Drawing Board Meetings # 1-3
Motions Approved, Tabled and Denied were placed in appropriate areas depending on the outcome of votes in the meetings.
Back to the Drawing Board is an exhibition of the collaborative work of artists-educators at the intersection of process and labour. The show features large-scale, mixed media and site-specific installation of collaborative drawings and performance.
All the installation and drawings exhibited alongside in the gallery were made collaboratively using materials evocative of office work. In mimicking the role of administration in relation to creative activity, we seek to perform the institutional structure and explore how this affects artistic form, engagement, activity, and individual identity.”
Sum Total, July 2017
Chalk on chalkboard, created by the three members of the Drawing Board as a durational piece at Loop Gallery exhibition.
Recurring institutional numbers from OCADU Annual Report, labour category salaries, attrition and enrolment numbers, grades, etc. We are interested in the new ideas that happen when the three of us as individual artists share and integrate our own ways of thinking and working. As artist-educators working in the same post-secondary institution, we can share and reflect on the intersection of creativity and bureaucracy. We use the language ofa dministrative policies and procedures to inform our drawing strategies.
